Havasu Man Hit with Fresh Indictment in Escalating Child Pornography Scandal
A Lake Havasu City man facing multiple child pornography charges has been indicted for a third time. Brady Busby, 50, now contends with 27 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in Mohave Superior Court. He will receive new legal representation as a trial approaches later this year.
Last July, authorities allege Busby uploaded several child pornographic files to an online data storage service. The Arizona Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force identified uploads traced back to Busby’s mobile phone number. Following his arrest on December 19, Busby was initially charged with seven counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
In February, Busby faced an additional ten counts. During a status conference in June, attorneys highlighted the possibility of further charges, which materialized on July 18. The latest indictment includes ten new counts, citing instances from August 2 to December 10 before his arrest.
If found guilty on all counts, Busby could face a cumulative 270-year prison sentence under Arizona law.
Busby has expressed dissatisfaction with his current legal representation. He criticized Elana Sears of the Mohave County Legal Defender’s Office, citing her lack of effort and the failure to secure potentially exculpatory evidence.
Busby recounted statements allegedly made by Sears, indicating a bleak outlook for his trial based on emotional juries and dubious prosecutorial tactics. His request for a new attorney was granted on July 18 by Mohave Superior Judge Douglas Camacho.
“I have zero confidence in any of the county public defenders,” Busby wrote to Judge Camacho, describing his experience over seven months of incarceration.
Among other grievances, Busby mentioned that Sears suggested a plea deal for a reduced sentence and proposed a psychological assessment, which he declined. He expressed concern that such assessments could be biased and misinterpreted.
Judge Camacho has ordered that Mohave County Indigent Defense Services appoint new legal counsel for Busby. A status conference is scheduled for August 15, where his new legal team is expected to appear.
As of Tuesday, Busby remains held at Mohave County Jail in Kingman on a $15,000 bond.
