Harris Tells Charlamagne Tha God: Disillusioned Voters Must Keep Hope Alive

During a live radio interview on Tuesday, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris urged Americans to participate in the upcoming election, emphasizing the importance of voting despite ongoing concerns over political issues. Speaking with Charlamagne Tha God on the nationally syndicated show “The Breakfast Club,” Harris acknowledged that immediate solutions to complex problems are unlikely.

“The solutions are not going to happen just overnight,” Harris stated, noting that significant change often requires sustained effort across multiple elections. She asserted that active participation is crucial: “The things that we want, and are prepared to fight for, won’t happen if we’re not active.”

Addressing past struggles for civil rights, Harris highlighted milestones like the 1965 Voting Rights Act, illustrating that progress can be slow yet attainable. She referenced the pivotal events surrounding Bloody Sunday, emphasizing the sacrifices made for the rights currently enjoyed.

In targeting disillusioned and traditionally marginalized voters, especially Black males, Harris warned that apathy at the polls allows obstructionists to thwart progress. She declared, “Let’s not fall for it,” strongly advocating for participation in the electoral process.

The candidate expressed confidence in her campaign, despite a tight race with Republican Donald Trump. Harris criticized Trump for disseminating misinformation about her actions and the Biden administration’s policies, asserting that his tactics aim to sow doubt among voters.

“One of the biggest challenges I face is mis- and disinformation,” she elaborated, underscoring that these tactics are strategically employed to undermine her credibility. Harris stressed that opposition efforts are grounded in fear tactics, revealing a lack of substantive support for their own policies.

Discussing her proposals, Harris highlighted plans to expand the child tax credit, assist first-time homebuyers, and increase access to capital for small businesses. She reaffirmed her commitment to addressing police brutality and pointed out the executive order signed by President Biden aimed at reforming federal law enforcement practices.

This executive order mandates the creation of a database for tracking law enforcement misconduct, a major step Harris considers vital for accountability. She underscored the need to advance initiatives like the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to create broader reforms across jurisdictions.

Harris articulated her stance on representing all Americans while also acknowledging the distinct disparities affecting marginalized communities. “I am running to be president for everybody,” she affirmed, adding that her policies will have widespread benefits.

“Small business owners, first-time homebuyers, and families will significantly benefit from my initiatives,” Harris emphasized, pointing to specific measures like tax deductions and down payment assistance aimed at fostering economic opportunity.
