A significant crash has shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Riggs Road, according to reports from the Arizona Department of Transportation. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. at milepost 168, involving a Gila River Police Department SUV, which sustained severe front-end damage and was left immobilized in the median.
As of now, officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Gila River Police Department have not provided comments regarding the situation. The estimated time for reopening the affected lanes remains unclear. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid severe delays.
Traffic congestion is significant; eastbound vehicles are reported to be backed up past Loop 202, extending at least 6 miles. Westbound traffic is similarly affected, with backups reaching the Gila River Bridge, spanning at least 4 miles.
