New leadership at nonprofit

Luis Vega

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona has officially appointed Luis Vega as its new president and CEO following a thorough national search. Vega takes over from Laura Capello, who dedicated over 20 years to the organization in various capacities.

A Phoenix native, Vega brings extensive experience from both military and nonprofit fields. His leadership track record and dedication to youth empowerment are commendable. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of International Operations at Allied Extract, where he managed essential humanitarian missions in Ukraine, focusing on the evacuation of critically injured children from combat zones.

Vega’s drive is rooted in his background as a first-generation immigrant; his parents moved from Mexico in pursuit of a better future for their family. This instilled in him a profound sense of service. After concluding his military service, he transitioned to nonprofit management, honing his skills to support veterans, families, and youth initiatives.
