Final Call: Share Your Thoughts on SR 347 Before Time Runs Out!
A crash occurred on State Route 347, just north of Riggs Road, prompting renewed discussions about the roadway’s improvements. Today is the final opportunity for residents to voice their opinions to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) concerning the proposed upgrades to this frequently congested highway.
The proposals include two options for constructing diamond interchanges at Riggs Road, intended to enhance traffic flow. One option involves building a bridge over the highway, while the alternative would see SR 347 elevated over Riggs Road.
Additional improvement proposals for intersections along Casa Blanca Road, Mammoth Way, Borgia Road, and Old Maricopa Road focus on enhancing turn lanes and creating acceleration lanes to better accommodate vehicular movement.
Trent Kelso, Corridor Manager for ADOT, highlighted the need for these improvements during a community meeting two weeks ago. He referenced a study conducted by the Maricopa Association of Governments in 2022, which stressed the urgency of the proposed enhancements.
Kelso stated, “Without improvements, the future traffic volumes on State Route 347 will exceed existing roadway capacity, leading to unacceptable and failing operations.” This alarming prediction translates to anticipated traffic backups and severe congestion if no action is taken.
Residents have until 11:59 p.m. today to submit their comments on the suggested improvements. Feedback can be sent via email or by mailing a letter, postmarked today, to ADOT Community Relations at 1655 W. Jackson St., MD 126F, Phoenix, AZ 85007.
