UPDATES: Bank heist suspects at large, FBI steps in

Authorities are investigating an attempted ATM theft that occurred early on August 20, 2024, at Chase Bank located at John Wayne Parkway and Cobblestone Farms Drive South. The Maricopa Police Department (MPD) received a report at 3:56 a.m. regarding a suspicious pickup truck, which was found unattended with its engine running.

According to MPD spokesperson Quinn Konold, the white Ford F-250 had a chain attached to its trailer hitch, indicating potential theft activity. Officers discovered the vehicle abandoned on Summer Lane and Cobblestone Farms Drive, with signs of it possibly being stolen; it was registered to a residence in Phoenix.

Upon further investigation, authorities noted that the drive-up ATM at Chase Bank had sustained damage consistent with an attempt to forcibly remove it using the vehicle and the attached chain. The area around the ATM has since been cordoned off to preserve the crime scene as investigations proceed.

MPD detectives are working in coordination with the FBI on this case. Currently, the identity and number of suspects involved remain unknown, and no arrests have been made yet. MPD continues to seek information from the public to assist in the ongoing investigation.
