PHOENIX — The Arizona State Fair is marking its 140th anniversary this year, an occasion that brings excitement and tradition to the state. As the days grow cooler, anticipation builds for the festivities set to unfold over six weekends, starting September 20 through October 27.

This year’s fair offers a variety of activities, including musical performances, unique food options, and arts showcases. Attendees can experience the fair’s offerings from Thursday to Sunday, with varying gate opening times; the fair opens at 4 p.m. on the opening weekend and at 12 p.m. for subsequent weekends.

Admission costs $15 for adults aged 8 and older, while children aged 7 and under enjoy free entry. To encourage community participation, the state fair is running a “Feel Good Fridays” promotion where guests can donate 10 canned food items for a complimentary admission on Fridays. Additionally, military personnel can gain free access on October 11 by using the password USAA and presenting their military ID.

There’s no shortage of attractions. Families can visit the Great American Petting Zoo, which features a variety of animals like goats and pigs. Another standout is the Pumpkinferno event, showcasing thousands of intricately designed pumpkins in an immersive walk-through experience. Cultural presentations and dance performances representing various U.S. and Canadian nations offer enriching experiences at 5, 6:45, and 8:30 p.m. daily.

The Coliseum Concert Series is another highlight, featuring live performances from acts like The All American Rejects on October 12 and the I Love the 90s Tour on October 18. Tickets to concerts also include fair admission, making for an economical night out.

For visitors conscious of their budgets, it’s advisable to explore affordable dining options and take advantage of promotional deals. Fair organizers provide accessibility features such as wheelchair rentals and designated parking for guests with disabilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the events comfortably.

Parking is available in both paid and free lots, with rates varying from $15 in the North and West lots to free options at Phoenix College and the State Capitol, though a shuttle service incurs a $2 charge. Ride-sharing is also accessible, with drop-off and pick-up points near the fairgrounds.

As the Arizona State Fair celebrates its legacy, it offers something for everyone. Plans to gather with friends and family at this cherished event promise to create memories that last a lifetime.
