Elton John Reveals He’s Blind Following Infection Setback

LONDON, UK — Legendary musician Elton John has revealed the challenges he faces following a recent infection that has severely affected his eyesight. Speaking at the opening night of “The Devil Wears Prada” in London, he shared his struggle to fully enjoy the musical, stating, “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight.”

Despite the limitations, John expressed his enthusiasm for the production, saying, “So it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight.” The 77-year-old previously disclosed on Instagram that he has only limited vision in one eye and is undergoing a slow healing process.

The stage adaptation of “The Devil Wears Prada,” which John wrote the score for, is based on the 2006 film that portrays a young journalist navigating the competitive world of fashion. Vanessa Williams stars as the formidable editor Miranda Priestly, a character famously played by Meryl Streep in the movie.

The gala event, which also served as a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, attracted various celebrities from the fashion industry, including designer Donatella Versace and Anna Wintour, the former Vogue editor often thought to be the inspiration for Priestly. Wintour described the musical as “entertaining,” capturing its essence amid the glamour of the occasion.
