Eli Crane Secures Re-election for Second Term in Congress
Republican Eli Crane secured a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating Democratic challenger Jonathan Nez in Arizona’s Second Congressional District.
Crane expressed gratitude for the support he received, stating, “I’m grateful to every voter in AZ-02 who cast their vote in support of the America First movement.” This statement was shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Crane emphasized his commitment to collaborating with President Trump to tackle inflation, secure the border, and promote a strategy of “peace through strength.”
Arizona’s largest congressional district spans from south of Phoenix to borders with New Mexico and Utah, encompassing significant portions of eastern and northern Arizona. With approximately 90% of the vote counted, Crane led Nez with 54% to 45%.
In his statement, Crane recognized Nez, the former president of the Navajo Nation, for his courageous decision to enter the race, wishing him and his family well.
At 43, Crane resides in Oro Valley, outside the district. His diverse background includes a 13-year tenure in the U.S. Navy, where he served in SEAL Team operations. Additionally, he previously owned a small business, Bottle Breacher, which he sold in 2022. Currently, he serves on several committees, including Homeland Security and Veteran Affairs, and is affiliated with the House Freedom Caucus.
The congressional district was redrawn in 2021, shifting the political landscape significantly. It now includes heavily Republican Yavapai County, resulting in a seven-point advantage for the GOP compared to a more balanced previous district.
Covering about 60% of Arizona, this district includes substantial tribal land, with tribal members comprising approximately 20% of the district’s total population, representing 14 tribes across the region.
During his first term, Crane sponsored 15 bills centering on veterans, public lands, and immigration reform. However, only two of those bills passed the House and none became law.
Crane made headlines as one of six Republicans who voted to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He has taken a firm stance against reproductive rights, co-sponsoring “The Life At Conception Act,” which aims to ban abortions without exceptions and restrict access to birth control and IVF options.
In a statement published on X, he congratulated President-elect Trump, declaring, “We the People have spoken loud and clear. Today marks a historic referendum in favor of the America First movement.”
