Dust Storm Alert: Rising Risks Expected This Wednesday Afternoon
A Blowing Dust Advisory is in effect for parts of the East Valley late Wednesday.
PHOENIX — Wednesday begins with typical heat around the Valley but storm chances loom for the afternoon and evening. An Air Quality Alert has also been issued for ozone in Phoenix.
The Weather Impact Alert for the second half of Wednesday is due to a Blowing Dust Advisory. Effective from 4 pm to 9 pm, it affects the Southeast Valley, Queen Creek, South Mountain, Ahwatukee, and extends to parts of Pinal County and Tucson.
Visibility could plummet to 1/4 mile during evening rush hour. Motorists are advised to avoid driving in dust storms. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off lights, set the emergency brake, remove your foot from the brake, and ensure your tail lights are off.
Isolated storms may develop around the Valley late Wednesday, particularly around Rim Country. Higher terrain areas are more susceptible to severe storms, which may bring gusty winds, blowing dust, heavy rain, and lightning. Storm chances continue through Friday.
Daytime highs remain several degrees above average this week, peaking just over 110°F through Saturday.
