Drug Kingpin Gets 15 Years Behind Bars in Major Trafficking Case
PHOENIX — Victor Vargas has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of illegally conducting an enterprise and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to sell, according to the Arizona Attorney General’s office.
Previously arrested in 2022, Vargas’s case garnered attention due to the extensive drug haul involved in the investigation. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Scottsdale Police Department led the operation.
Law enforcement recovered an alarming quantity of narcotics, including 142 pounds of methamphetamine and 53 pounds of fentanyl, equivalent to around 241,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl. Additional seizures included three pounds of cocaine, 1.5 pounds of heroin, and $24,000 in cash, alongside a firearm.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes emphasized the significance of this case in fortifying efforts against drug trafficking. “Finding and dismantling criminal drug organizations remains a priority. This week’s actions reflect our commitment to partner with local and federal law enforcement to combat the flow of fentanyl in Arizona,” Mayes stated.
Two co-defendants connected to Vargas’s case are still awaiting trial, indicating that investigations in this area may continue as authorities seek to address broader drug distribution networks.
