WASHINGTON — Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States for a second time on Monday during a ceremony inside the U.S. Capitol rotunda.

This inauguration marks a pivotal moment in Trump’s political journey. Following the January 6th, 2021, attack on the Capitol, many Republicans initially distanced themselves from him. However, they united in support during his third bid for the presidency. J.D. Vance from Ohio was also sworn in as Vice President, joining Trump in this new administration.

Later in the day, Trump is anticipated to sign a series of executive orders focusing on key issues such as immigration and energy policy.

In the November election, Trump secured victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, gaining 312 Electoral College votes compared to her 226. His popular vote tally stood at 77.3 million, or 49.9%, while Harris received 75 million votes, translating to 48.4%.

Originally scheduled for the Capitol terrace overlooking the National Mall, the ceremony was moved indoors due to extremely cold temperatures. This is the first time the inauguration has taken place in the rotunda since Ronald Reagan’s ceremony.

Supporters unable to enter the rotunda were able to watch the event on large screens set up in the Capitol Visitor Center or at the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
