Donald Trump issues statement after Biden withdraws from 2024 race

After losing to Biden in 2020, the two were headed for a rematch in the November general election.

WASHINGTON — Former President and current Republican candidate Donald Trump has responded to President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, calling Biden unfit for the presidency.

On Sunday, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, criticizing Biden’s capability. “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” Trump wrote. “All those around him, including his doctor and the media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t.”

Trump concluded his message with, “We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race followed a contentious debate with Trump on June 27, which raised concerns about the 81-year-old’s ability to govern effectively just four months ahead of the election.

In the wake of his announcement, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, urging the Democratic Party to consolidate their support around her.

Senator JD Vance, Trump’s recently announced running mate for 2024, criticized Harris in his own statement. “Joe Biden has been the worst President in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been right there with him every step of the way. Over the last four years she co-signed Biden’s open border and green scam policies that drove up the cost of housing and groceries,” Vance stated.

Biden, who has been isolating at his Delaware beach house after a COVID-19 diagnosis, made the decision in consultation with a tight circle of advisors and family members.
