Disney World, Disneyland getting new lands, attractions

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort are set for substantial expansions, the company revealed during its annual D23 convention on Saturday.

At Florida’s Magic Kingdom, Disney is introducing an entirely new “land” dedicated to its iconic villains. This fresh area will offer fans a unique opportunity to celebrate their favorite bad guys, including Maleficent and Cruella de Ville, who have historically taken a backseat to heroes and princesses. The new villain-themed area will encompass two attractions, along with dining and shopping facilities.

Disney’s Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro highlighted the scale of this villains’ expansion, emphasizing the creative potential it holds for the park’s designers, known as Imagineers. “Since the beginning, our Disney Villains have given us endless possibilities to tell new stories,” D’Amaro stated. “In this new land, you’ll see storytelling on a grand scale that only Disney can deliver.”

Another significant addition to Magic Kingdom will be the expansion of Frontierland, featuring the town of Radiator Springs from the “Cars” movie. Classic park areas like the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed to create rugged terrains for rally races.

The new developments mark the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom’s history.

Over at Animal Kingdom, a new land titled Tropical Americas will debut in 2027. This area will include attractions based on “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones.”

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to introduce a new land inspired by Pixar’s “Monster’s Inc” franchise. The highlight of this area will be the park’s first suspended rollercoaster.

In California, Disneyland’s Avengers Campus will double in size with two new Marvel-themed attractions. Additionally, a new attraction inspired by the “Avatar” film series, specifically “Avatar: The Way of Water,” will also be introduced.

During the D23 event, Disney teased several upcoming movies and TV series, including sequels like “Moana 2,” “Incredibles 3,” and the live-action “Snow White.”
