Diamondbacks end 4-game losing streak with 4-2 win over Giants

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks halted their four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Alek Thomas shone at the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Pitcher Ryne Nelson struck out seven batters across 6 2/3 innings before being lifted after reaching his pitch limit.

In a dramatic moment, Tyler Fitzgerald tied the game at 2 after hitting a ball to the warning track that scored two runs immediately after Nelson’s exit. The Diamondbacks regained the lead in the seventh inning with a bloop single from Geraldo Perdomo, which brought Thomas home.

Controversy arose in the eighth inning when Christian Koss hit a deep ball to left-center that was ruled a ground-rule double due to fan interference. This outcome sparked arguments, resulting in San Francisco manager Bob Melvin’s ejection.

Eugenio Suárez extended Arizona’s lead with a solo home run in the eighth, his eleventh of the month. The Giants have now lost three consecutive games, adding to their struggles.

Overall, Nelson allowed two earned runs while giving up five hits without walking any batters. John Curtiss earned his first win of the season, while Shelby Miller achieved his first career four-out save. Diamondbacks pitchers effectively neutralized the top three Giants’ hitters, limiting them to a single hit in twelve at-bats.

On the other side, Giants starter Logan Webb pitched 6 1/3 innings, yielding three earned runs and striking out seven. He also conceded his seventh home run of the season to Lourdes Gurriel Jr., which initially put the Diamondbacks up 2-0 in the sixth inning.

Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will send RHP Zac Gallen (5-9, 5.75 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday night. He has previously defeated the Giants twice in a row with an impressive 0.75 ERA. The Giants will counter with RHP Hayden Birdsong (0-0, 4.13 ERA).
