A 27-year-old man from Desert Passage is facing multiple domestic violence charges following a violent incident in his home on Tuesday evening.
Matthew Richardson reportedly became agitated around 6 p.m. when he demanded his wife stop using her phone to help care for their children. A heated argument erupted, during which Richardson allegedly vandalized furniture, threw children’s toys, and prevented his wife from calling 911 by taking her phone.
As the confrontation escalated, his wife attempted to use a tablet to message emergency responders. Richardson is accused of forcibly taking the tablet from her as well. Despite his efforts, she managed to retrieve her phone and call the police, prompting Richardson to flee the scene.
Law enforcement quickly located him, where he admitted to the events. During the disturbance, two children under the age of 10 were present in their home on Peggy Street. Fortunately, the wife sustained no injuries but was holding one of the children during the altercation.
Richardson was arrested without incident and subsequently booked into Pinal County Jail. He faces charges that include assault, disorderly conduct, and interference with a 911 call. If convicted, he could spend up to 18 months in prison.
For those in Maricopa facing domestic violence, resources are available to provide support and assistance.
