Dad Arrested for Allegedly Strangling and Hospitalizing His Young Daughter
Maricopa Police Department arrested Carl D. Shannon, 37, on Thursday for allegedly abusing his daughter, leading to her hospitalization. Authorities report that Shannon is charged with aggravated assault against a minor under 15, threatening, fighting, and tampering with a witness.
When confronted by officers at his Santa Rosa Springs residence around 5:45 p.m., Shannon claimed he simply “disciplined” his daughter. However, the scene inside told a different story. Officers found the girl crying in her bedroom. Initially, she claimed no physical harm had occurred but later revealed that her father instructed her to change her narrative.
The child disclosed that Shannon had repeatedly slapped her, choked her, and even threatened to kill her. She recounted an experience where he dragged her from her bedroom to the kitchen by her shirt collar. A witness corroborated the girl’s account, lending further credibility to her claims.
According to police records, Shannon’s violent actions were a form of punishment for what he believed was unauthorized gatherings of friends at their home. Police noted visible injuries on the girl’s neck, and her torn shirt was indicative of the struggle.
Following his arrest, Shannon was booked into the Pinal County jail, where he faces a potential sentence of more than five-and-a-half years in prison.
