Jeff Northrup, prominent for his anti-Trump protests, encountered an unexpected disruption while picketing at Smith Enke Road and John Wayne Parkway near CVS Pharmacy this morning. He reported that Maricopa Code Enforcement Officer Dean Dinwiddie confiscated his politically charged signs and a signature Trump doll.

The doll, shaped like a piñata, is adorned with gold Converse sneakers and clutching a Trump-branded Bible, making it a unique focal point for Northrup’s demonstrations.

Northrup contends that the officer acted improperly. “He claimed that was a right-of-way … but there’s really no sidewalk there and it’s all gone,” he stated, referring to the construction zone that has emerged in recent weeks. “So, there’s no way it could have been a right-of-way, but that’s what he was screaming.”

He asserted that he had set up his signs and the doll in a dirt patch at the corner, a location he believed was acceptable.

Throughout the exchange, Northrup accused the officer of being unresponsive and physical. “The officer didn’t make any attempt whatsoever to pretend like Donald was a breakable object,” he remarked, relieved his piñata remained intact despite the apparent aggression.

According to Northrup, code enforcement protocols typically require officers to issue a warning and provide 24 hours’ notice before confiscating signs. Though he avoided a ticket and reclaimed his property en route to a Democratic rally in Phoenix, new challenges lie ahead.

Northrup revealed that upon retrieving his piñata, an unnamed code enforcement officer informed him that the city would pursue criminal charges against him, citing frustration with his actions.

Previously, Northrup faced 18 counts for alleged violations of the city’s sign regulations in July. He contested these charges in court but felt unheard by the judge during the proceedings. Although fines totaling $1,800 had been tabled, he was recently notified at City Hall that he needed to make payment arrangements. “There’s no use in making arrangements because I don’t have any money,” he stated. “I could settle the debt for $10, and they can pursue someone else for the $1,800.”

Despite these setbacks, Northrup remains undeterred. Following the Harris-Walz rally, he plans to attend an event in Glendale hosted by Tucker Carlson that features Trump, where he intends to protest.

Northrup gained viral attention on Reddit in July when a user shared a photo of his Trump piñata, garnering over 2,000 upvotes. Recently, at a Team Trump campaign event in Maricopa, he was ejected for heckling Monica Crowley, Trump’s former Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs.
