Bridge Construction Forces Two-Day Closure in Wild Horse Pass Area

The Gila River Bridge will face lane restrictions on December 3 and 4, 2024, as part of ongoing improvement efforts, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
If you’re traveling between Casa Grande and Phoenix, expect delays. From 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow, westbound Interstate 10 will see lane restrictions between mileposts 172 and 174. Crews will be conducting necessary repairs on the bridge during this time.
ADOT advises drivers to approach the area with caution and to allocate extra time for their journeys. Current construction on the Wild Horse Pass Corridor necessitates these interruptions.
The I-10 Bridges Over the Gila River Project aims to replace two existing two-lane bridges with new three-lane counterparts that include wider shoulders. The project also involves upgrading associated roadways to accommodate the changes. The Gila River Bridge spans approximately 1,400 feet.
A significant construction bid of $50.9 million was awarded on January 12, paving the way for work that commenced on May 13 and is expected to continue until 2026.
Previous complications were noted when a sinkhole emerged on the Gila River Bridge, leading to similar lane restrictions in June and causing considerable traffic disruptions toward Maricopa.
