Aztec men endure first season loss at Phoenix

The Pima Community College men’s soccer team faced their first defeat of the season on Saturday, falling to Phoenix College in an ACCAC conference match. This matchup featured two nationally ranked NJCAA Division II programs, with Pima ranked No. 4 and Phoenix ranked No. 2.

The game began with a decisive play by the Bears, who scored first in the 29th minute through Clifton Branch, securing a 1-0 lead at halftime.

The Aztecs fought back, equalizing the score at 1-1 when sophomore Missael Montilla, assisted by Nico Valenzuela, netted a goal in the 53rd minute. However, the Bears regained the lead when Michael Watkins scored in the 71st minute, which ultimately secured their victory.

Looking ahead, the Aztecs will return to their home turf on Tuesday, where they will take on Scottsdale Community College at 6 p.m.
