Aztec baseball manages 3 hits and 10 walks in season-opener win over College of Southern Idaho

The Pima Community College baseball team commenced its 2025 season with a thrilling victory over the College of Southern Idaho, winning 5-4 in the opener of their four-game series on Friday at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.

The No. 23-ranked Aztecs fell behind early, as the Golden Eagles established a two-run lead in the first inning. However, Pima’s sophomore pitcher Maclain Roberts effectively silenced their offense, allowing only one hit and a hit-by-pitch over the next three innings.

In the fourth inning, the Aztecs capitalized on patient plate discipline, loading the bases through a single and two walks. Sophomore Ray Jesse and freshman Quintin Hennesy (Horizon HS) drew walks that scored sophomore Collin Senior (Horizon HS) and sophomore Nolan Ganter (Pinnacle HS), respectively. Freshman Ramon Martinez was then hit by a pitch, allowing freshman Max Leyva (Tucson Magnet HS) to score, which shifted the lead to Pima at 3-2. Furthermore, another walk to Caden Richards brought in Jesse, concluding a five-walk inning and positioning the Aztecs ahead 4-2.

The final game stats showed CSI 2 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 = 4 (7 hits, 1 error), and PCC 0 0 0 4 0 1 0 0 x = 5 (3 hits, 2 errors). The win was credited to Roberts (1-0), with Ganter recording a double.

The Aztecs will continue their series against the Golden Eagles with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Field, starting at 11 a.m.
