Arizona's new lake set to generate 2000 megawatts of power, far surpassing current power output of all current Salt River Lakes


ROOSEVELT, Ariz. — Plans are underway to introduce a new lake to Arizona, enhancing the state’s water and energy resources significantly. The Salt River Project (SRP) has received preliminary approval to develop a small lake between Roosevelt and Apache Lakes.

This proposed lake, while covering a modest surface area of about 300 acres, is expected to reach a depth of 300 feet. Such depth will enable swift water movement over power-generating turbines, greatly enhancing efficiency.

The anticipated lake could produce as much as 2,000 megawatts of energy, significantly more than the current combined output of the existing Salt River Lakes, which totals 300 megawatts. This addition could supply power to hundreds of thousands of homes across the region.

The completion of this project could arrive as early as 2033, contingent on the progression of plans and approvals.
