Arizona’s ‘Kitten Season’ Kicks Off: Discover How You Can Make a Difference!

'Kitten Season' is just beginning in Arizona. Here's how you can help.

PHOENIX — Arizona has officially entered “Kitten Season,” a critical time for animal welfare organizations as they brace for an influx of kittens in need.

The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) spotlighted one of the many kittens they rescued last year: Lunes, a now seven-month-old brown tabby shorthair. Lunes faced a perilous situation when he was trapped in a drain pipe under a Phoenix sidewalk at just four months old. Luckily, AHS Emergency Medical Technicians swiftly rescued him, and he is now thriving in a loving home in Scottsdale.

In 2024, AHS cared for nearly 2,800 kittens in its Bottle Baby ICU and Doris Norton Kitten Nursery. With the ongoing animal welfare crisis, projections indicate that these numbers may increase in 2025.

Neonate kittens need round-the-clock care, which can quickly fill available kennel space. AHS encourages community support by fostering kittens when the nursery is at capacity. They provide all necessary medical care, supplies, and training for those who open their homes to these vulnerable animals.

Moreover, if you come across a litter of kittens, AHS urges you to visit their website for guidance on ensuring their safety.
