Arizona State football is off to an unexpected 3-0 start in 2024 and is 'looking forward to much more success' heading into Big 12 play

Arizona State University’s football program is turning heads this season, standing at 3-0 after a dismal 3-9 record in the previous two years. The Sun Devils marked their best start in five years, showcasing significant progress under second-year coach Kenny Dillingham.

As the Sun Devils prepare for their first Big 12 matchup, they find themselves among five undefeated teams within the conference, despite preseason forecasts predicting a last-place finish. Their latest victory came from a hard-fought 31-28 win at Texas State.

Ben Coleman, an offensive lineman for ASU, visited the 12News studio to share insights about the team’s achievements with journalist Lina Washington. Coleman expressed enthusiasm about the team’s positive momentum, stating, “I think it’s wonderful… We’re looking forward to much more success.” His comments reflect the cultural shift fostered by Dillingham’s leadership.

Addressing the team’s transformation, Coleman emphasized the importance of hard work and resilience, especially among the roster that includes many transfer players. “Seeing results after months of training is fun,” he remarked, underscoring the tangible improvements in both player performance and team culture.

The support from the student body has been palpable, with over 10,000 students filling the stands for home games. Coleman noted that this vibrant atmosphere has been a crucial factor in the team’s morale and performance. He anticipates a packed Inferno when ASU faces Kansas on October 5, adding, “I think it’s gonna be rocking.”

Additionally, ASU’s ground game has been impressive, averaging 229.3 rushing yards per game, which boosts the confidence of Coleman and the offensive line. “We feel confident. Our job is our job,” he affirmed, highlighting the depth and talent within the squad.

Fans can catch the Sun Devils in action again on Saturday, September 21, as they take on Texas Tech in their inaugural Big 12 game, set for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
