Amid ‘Operation May’ Drug Busts, MPD Takes Down Fentanyl, Meth, and Heroin Traffickers

Maricopa is once again at the center of a significant drug bust, following recent arrests highlighted by Pinal County law enforcement. Police apprehended Robert Martin, 54, during a routine traffic stop at Alterra and John Wayne Parkways. A subsequent search uncovered a fanny pack containing 175 grams of methamphetamine and approximately 100 counterfeit M30 pills, confirmed to contain fentanyl.
In another case, Gilberto Coss, 59, was arrested near State Route 238 and Loma Road. A search warrant executed at his Hidden Valley residence revealed 14 grams of heroin and 12 grams of fentanyl. Both men now face multiple felony charges, reflecting a growing concern over drug trafficking in the area.
Recent efforts by Pinal County law enforcement, dubbed “Operation May,” targeted smuggling along Interstate 10 from May 12 to 15. Collaborating with Homeland Security and U.S. Border Patrol, authorities made 116 traffic stops, resulting in three felony arrests and the detainment of ten undocumented migrants. Seized items included 2½ pounds of heroin and an ounce of cocaine, underscoring the increasing volume of narcotics flowing through the region.
Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller emphasized the urgency of these efforts. “This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting our communities from the dangers posed by criminal activity and human smuggling,” he stated. Miller’s remarks echoed the sentiments shared by authorities following the arrests in Maricopa.
As these investigations unfold, officials remain vigilant. “This is not the end,” Miller warned. “We will continue to aggressively pursue those who attempt to exploit our highways to commit crimes that endanger Pinal County citizens.” The commitment to public safety underscores the pressing need to combat these illicit activities.
