We Uncovered Everyone!
Don Senneville and Jim White
Residents of the local community are inquiring about those who have ventured away for the summer. In search of answers, we embarked on an explorative journey to popular coffee spots in cooler regions. Jim White visited Flagstaff, Arizona, where he indulged in a delightful French breakfast at Foret Flg Cafe on Beaver Street. He praised the culinary experience, specifically a French omelet that rivaled any he has tasted. The café’s macchiato and croque madame also impressed him. Located just under two hours from town, it’s an easily accessible destination for coffee enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, Don Senneville took a different route, exploring the coffee culture in Montana and Idaho. He discovered a surprising number of locally owned coffee shops in Missoula, including Clyde Coffee, Florence Coffee Company, and his top pick, Good Americano. Don noted the region’s unique vibe, attracting outdoor enthusiasts such as mountain bikers and river rafters. The streets were noticeably less crowded than those in our own bustling Coffee Row, highlighting the contrast between urban and rural coffee experiences.
Don’s reporting revealed that many locals from Tempe, north Phoenix, and surrounding areas have made their way to Montana and Idaho, contributing to the noticeable absence of familiar faces at local coffee spots. His account of Missoula’s farmers market piqued interest, showcasing exotic offerings like Houthi sweets and an array of local produce, though absent of traditional Mexican fare. The juxtaposition of grizzly bears and vibrant flags painted a vivid picture of life in the area.
As our research concluded, we pondered the reasons behind this migratory trend towards quieter, more rustic locales. Perhaps the proximity to Canada is a factor. Whatever the reason, we hope for Don’s return to our lively community. On a brighter note, Janey’s Coffee House has reopened, reestablishing a favorite gathering spot within Coffee Row. It remains a welcoming environment, free from the complexities of foreign menus or wildlife encounters.
The $10 door at ROC2 continues to serve exceptional espresso, now featuring beans from Ethiopia, the heartland of Italian coffee. To share your summer coffee adventures, reach out to us at The CUP: [email protected]
