Sedona Police Department welcomes a new recruit, Officer Cole Taylor, who has experienced significant life changes over the past year. In May 2023, he earned his master’s degree and began his training at the Northern Arizona Regional Training Academy in January.

Alongside his academic pursuits, Taylor and his wife Hilary welcomed their third child, Claire, in March. Taylor officially joined the Sedona Police Department on June 3 this year.

“We have three kids: Adasyan, seven; Liam, four; and Claire,” Taylor shared. “My family has deep roots in the Verde Valley, with businesses like Taylor Waste and Taylor and Sons hauling.” He emphasized his long-standing familiarity with the area, deeply interconnected with local family enterprises.

Born and raised in Cottonwood, Taylor graduated from Mingus Union High School in 2006. After a brief stint in the Phoenix metro area, he returned to his roots, serving as a volunteer firefighter and working with the Verde Valley Ambulance Company and Northern Arizona Healthcare as an EMT and clinical practice supervisor.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from the University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in business administration. “Customer service links my medical and law enforcement careers,” Taylor explained, highlighting the importance of public interaction in both fields. “As officers, we are leaders in our community.”

Notably, Taylor has observed significant growth in Sedona. “Back in the early ’90s, we used to rapel off Bell Rock. Now, finding a parking spot or getting a permit is challenging,” he noted, acknowledging both the benefits and drawbacks of the area’s expansion.

In his free time, Taylor enjoys physical fitness, hunting, and fishing, particularly for elk in Northern Arizona. “The gym helps me manage stress,” he said. He also has a passion for country music, a legacy from his upbringing. “Country music was a staple in my family, and I even wrote songs for a while,” he recalled.

Looking forward, Taylor desires to contribute to the Sedona Police Department’s growth. “I’d love to join the K-9 unit and aspire to advance within the ranks, possibly becoming a sergeant or chief one day,” he expressed. “I see great potential for this department and city, and I’m eager to help make a positive impact here.”
