Hero Phoenix Commander Who Honored Tyler Moldovan Takes Helm as Goodyear Police Chief

Chief Brian Issitt, a 22-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department, has been appointed as the new police chief of Goodyear.
In his tenure with the Phoenix Police Department, Issitt led the Desert Horizon Precinct during a critical period when Officer Tyler Moldovan was shot eight times in December 2021. Moldovan’s survival was deemed a miracle by many.
In a significant event at Chase Field, Issitt presented Moldovan with his official police badge. Reflecting on the moment, Issitt exclaimed, “Nothing prepares you as a leader for having an officer of yours that’s shot. Really, mortally wounded. I mean Tyler wasn’t expected to survive.”
Issitt took on his new role in Goodyear following the retirement of former Chief Santiago Rodriguez earlier this year, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep passion for public safety.
Goodyear City Manager Wynette Reed commented, “He is a police officer who has been through the good and the bad while protecting the public, which will give him great perspective in this leadership role.”
