Arizona Watch Fire Update and Command Transition

Incident Management Transition:

  • Date: Saturday
  • Details: The Central West Zone Type Three Incident Management Team will assume command of the Watch Fire. They will begin shadowing the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team Two starting today.

Fire Status:

  • Containment: 100% contained.
  • Current Activity: Unburned materials within the fire perimeter will continue to smoke as fuels are consumed. There is no threat to containment, and crews will continue to monitor the fire.
  • Recent Response: Resources responded to a new fire near Cutter Airport, quickly extinguished, believed to be caused by lightning. Crews remain available for any new starts today.

  • Start Date: July 10, 2024
  • Location: 7 Mile and Peridot Districts, San Carlos Reservation
  • Cause: Human Caused, Under Investigation
  • Size: 2,162 acres
  • Fuels: Cottonwood, Brush, Understory

Weather:

  • Conditions: Yesterday brought some rain on the Watch Fire. Today will have a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms with temperatures around 102 degrees.

Safety Reminder:

  • Fire Danger: High fire danger persists due to weather conditions. Residents should always be “READY” to evacuate in emergencies.

Fire Restrictions:

  • Stage 1 Fire Restrictions: Remain in place on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. No burn permits will be issued currently.
