Video: 22-Year-Old Motorcyclist, Dubbed ‘Adrenaline Junkie,’ Launched in Shocking Crash

Luka Breunig, a 22-year-old motorcyclist, continues to recover from serious injuries sustained in an accident on April 16 at John Wayne Parkway and Hathaway Avenue. Recent traffic camera footage captures the moment he was ejected from his motorcycle, projected several yards across the intersection. His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise $10,000 for essential surgeries.
Breunig was riding south when he collided with a Kia Sportage that turned left in front of him. Initial reports indicated a broken leg; however, a more in-depth assessment revealed numerous injuries, prompting the GoFundMe effort organized by his father, Franco Breunig.
Franco described his son’s adventurous spirit, noting, “He likes to mountain climb and skydive. He’s an adrenaline junkie.” The campaign details that Luka suffered chest contusions, swollen lungs, a compound fracture of his right leg, a fractured wrist, and a hairline fracture of his neck.
After spending nine days in a trauma center, the family remains hopeful for Luka’s recovery, as he had aspirations to join the military. Franco cited the recovery of NFL quarterback Alex Smith after a similar injury as a source of inspiration.
The footage shows Breunig colliding with the SUV and landing forcefully on the pavement. He attempts to rise and walk but collapses near the curb. While the video does not clarify traffic signals, Nicole Galindo, owner of the Kia and mother of the driver, expressed her gratitude that her children, aged four and one, were unharmed.
Luka has faced several court charges for speeding, including a guilty plea in 2022 for exceeding the speed limit in a 45 mph zone. A more recent speeding charge was resolved through a corrective driving class.
In his appeal for support, Franco stated, “We ask for your prayers, positive thoughts, and continued hope for his recovery. We are incredibly grateful that he survived, but the road ahead is long.”
