Luke Haynes, a prominent quilt artist, is set to discuss his artistic journey and innovative techniques at a lecture on June 5. This event, part of the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture’s ¡Sombra! project, will feature insights from Haynes’ career, which includes 160 exhibitions and over 400 quilts.

The lecture will take place at Faith United Methodist Church, located at 8640 N. 19th Ave. Starting at 6:45 p.m., the 60-minute talk will conclude with a Q&A session, offering attendees a chance to engage directly with the artist.

Haynes is among nearly a dozen artists involved in the ¡Sombra! initiative, which addresses the challenges of urban heat in Phoenix through innovative cooling solutions. The project will showcase temporary structures in public parks, leading up to the Celebration of Shade Festival at Steele Indian School Park on September 20, 6-9 p.m. For more details, visit www.sombraphx.org.
