Arizona Stars to Shine at Paris Olympics on Tuesday, July 30
Tuesday in Paris features several Arizona Olympians in the spotlight, from gymnastics to swimming, and even 3×3 basketball.
PARIS, France — Arizona’s athletes have already made their mark in the Olympics, including Mesa skateboarder Jagger Eaton who secured a silver medal in men’s street skateboarding on Monday.
Expect even more electrifying performances on Tuesday as medals are up for grabs in women’s gymnastics and swimming events.
Here’s a rundown of Arizona athletes who will showcase their talents on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Jade Carey, Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
Jade Carey will return to the gym to help Team USA aim for a gold medal in the women’s team final. She will compete solely in the vault, the first of the four rotations, starting at 9:15 a.m. Arizona time. The final will also stream live on Peacock.
Chase Budinger, Men’s Beach Volleyball
Chase Budinger, a former University of Arizona basketball player, is set for his second Olympic match. He and partner Miles Evans will face the Netherlands’ Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot at 11 a.m.
Jimmer Fredette, Men’s 3×3 Basketball
Jimmer Fredette, once a Phoenix Sun, now competes in men’s 3×3 basketball. Team USA will commence pool play against Serbia at 1:35 p.m. The top two teams advance to the semifinals, while the next four move to the knockout round.
Cierra Burdick, Women’s 3×3 Basketball
Former Phoenix Mercury forward Cierra Burdick aims to help Team USA defend its gold medal in 3×3 basketball. The team opens against Germany at 8:30 a.m. The rules for advancing are the same as for the men’s competition.
Regan Smith, Women’s Swimming
Regan Smith, an ASU alum, will swim in the 100-meter backstroke final at 11:56 a.m. Smith enters the final as the top qualifier, having swum 57.97 seconds in the semis. She holds the world record in this event.
Léon Marchand, Men’s Swimming
Former ASU swimmer Léon Marchand will compete in the preliminary heats and semifinals for the 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter breaststroke. Marchand already has a gold medal in the 400-meter individual medley.
Ilya Kharun, Men’s Swimming
ASU sophomore Ilya Kharun will swim for Canada in the men’s 200-meter butterfly. This marks his first Olympics.
Tiago Behar, Men’s Swimming
ASU’s Tiago Behar will swim for Switzerland in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. This will also be his Olympic debut.
Desirae Krawczyk, Women’s Tennis
Former Sun Devil Desirae Krawczyk will start her Olympic journey in the women’s doubles, partnering with Danielle Collins. They will face Greece’s Desponia Papamichail and Maria Sakkari.
Luguentz Dort, Men’s Basketball
Former Sun Devil Luguentz Dort will play for Canada against Australia at 4:30 a.m. Canada looks to build on its win over Greece.
Josh Green, Men’s Basketball
Former Arizona Wildcat Josh Green will represent Australia in their game against Canada. Green played significant minutes but did not score in their first game.
Jock Landale, Men’s Basketball
Jock Landale, a former Phoenix Sun, led Australia with 20 points in their win over Spain. He’ll be pivotal in their matchup against Canada.
Yuta Watanabe, Men’s Basketball
Former Sun Yuta Watanabe will play for Japan against France at 8:15 a.m. He scored 16 points in Japan’s opening game against Germany.
