ADOT Unveils Game-Changing Interchange Design to Expand 347 to Three Lanes
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has unveiled the final design for the Riggs Road interchange on State Route 347, a long-anticipated infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion. This announcement, made in a press release, promises significant improvements for travelers in Maricopa.
The new design replaces the existing intersection with an elevated bridge, allowing traffic on SR 347 to flow smoothly over Riggs Road, which will remain at ground level. This change is expected to minimize bottlenecks at one of the city’s busiest junctions and includes on- and off-ramps connecting the highway with Riggs Road.
Additionally, the infrastructure enhancement will facilitate future expansions of State Route 347, accommodating three lanes in each direction. This development is crucial for enhancing traffic capacity as Maricopa continues to grow.
During a community meeting in August, the design alternatives were presented, and the chosen plan is now progressing toward the final design stage with construction scheduled to begin early next year.
State Representative Teresa Martinez expressed her enthusiasm over the selection. “I am thrilled that ADOT finally selected a final design. Now we can move forward on the next step,” the Republican lawmaker stated, highlighting the project’s importance for the region.
