Christopher Nolan’s next film is based on ‘The Odyssey’

Christopher Nolan is set to adapt Homer’s “The Odyssey” into a film that promises to be a visually stunning experience. Universal Pictures announced that the movie will release in theaters on July 17, 2026.

While specific details remain limited, the studio has described the project as a “mythic action epic” that will utilize cutting-edge IMAX technology. This marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first adaptation of the classic saga to screen in IMAX format, enhancing its immersive qualities.

Nolan, a long-time advocate of IMAX filmmaking, has used large format film in his recent works. Notably, he introduced the first black-and-white IMAX film stock for “Oppenheimer.” Recently, he revealed they are conducting intensive tests with IMAX to develop new techniques for “The Odyssey.”

In his words, “They have an incredible engineering staff, really brilliant minds doing extraordinary work. It’s wonderful to see innovation in the celluloid film arena still happening and happening at the highest level possible.”

This project will be Nolan’s second venture with Universal following “Oppenheimer,” which achieved nearly $1 billion in box office revenue and garnered multiple Academy Awards, including best director and best picture. Speculation about the cast and plot has been rampant, but the studio has not confirmed any details regarding the ensemble yet.
