Fresh Talent Spotlight: Meet Anna Abeytia

Anna Abeytia is set to step into the House of Representatives, succeeding progressive Democrat Analise Ortiz, who is moving to the Senate. Abeytia, who partnered with Ortiz during their recent campaign, previously attempted to secure a seat in the House for Legislative District 24 but was unsuccessful against moderate Democratic Rep. Lydia Hernandez in 2022.

Although Abeytia lost her bid for reelection on the Cartwright Elementary School District Governing Board, she brings significant experience to her new role. She served on the board alongside Hernandez for the past four years, solidifying her commitment to education in the community. An educator by profession, Abeytia has held various positions within both the Cartwright and Glendale school districts.

A Maryvale native, Abeytia has garnered support from notable organizations, including Reproductive Freedom for All and the Human Rights Campaign. These endorsements underscore her commitment to advancing progressive values in the legislature. While she has not made herself available for comments regarding her new position, her history of advocacy suggests she will continue to champion similar causes as Ortiz.
