Joe Biden Bows Out: Impact on Arizona Ballots Unveiled

Joe Biden has dropped out. Here’s what it means for Arizona ballots.

President Joe Biden has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race, raising questions about the impact on Arizona’s November ballot. The Republican and Democratic National Committees must file their presidential nominees with Arizona’s Secretary of State by August 25. The Democratic National Convention runs from August 19-22.

This deadline allows counties to finalize ballots for printing and ensure accuracy. Military and overseas ballots are mailed by September 21, while early ballots are sent out by October 9. Biden’s exit from the race gives delegates the chance to choose a new candidate at the convention. Many Democratic leaders, including Biden, have shown support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee.

In a statement, the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office expressed confidence in a secure election. Secretary Adrian Fontes assured that procedures are in place to maintain election integrity. “The Secretary of State governs by a set of rules and laws that ensure the proper administration of elections,” the statement read. It emphasized the ongoing efforts of election officials nationwide to ensure secure, fair elections and accurate ballot counts.

Due to numerous citizen-led initiatives and ballot referrals, some voters in Arizona, particularly in Maricopa County, may face longer ballots this election cycle, possibly spanning two to three pages.
