Champion of the Week is black belt in Taekwondo

This week, 12News has honored an exceptional young athlete from the Valley with its Champion of the Week award.

PHOENIX — Each week, 12News, in collaboration with Champion Air, recognizes an outstanding athlete, student, or community member.

This week’s Champion of the Week is Athan, a 16-year-old third-degree black belt in Taekwondo. Athan is celebrated for his remarkable achievements and serves as an inspiring figure for other teenagers with special needs.

“I am unstoppable,” said Athan, radiating confidence and positivity. He continues to break barriers, not letting Autism hinder his progress in Taekwondo.

Barry Farrah, the owner of Champion Air, surprised Athan with the youth excellence award, expressing immense pride in Athan’s contributions and hard work. “We’re just so proud of you and all the hard work you put into your community, you’re the master of masters,” Farrah said.

Athan’s mother, Norma, shared that he has clinched the Arizona state ATA Champion title and the ATA District Champion title. At the end of July, he will be competing for the World Champion title in Phoenix, a testament to his relentless dedication.

Norma emphasized Athan’s role as an inspiration to any family, pointing out that consistent effort and a never-give-up attitude yield impressive results. “I feel amazing, and it’s important to keep going and don’t give up,” Athan echoed.
