As the 2024 election draws near, the focus has shifted from the presidential race to the legislative battles in Arizona. Despite significant efforts by progressive groups to secure dominance in the state’s narrowly Republican legislature, their ambition fell flat.

Following the Republican decline in the 2022 elections, where they held only 31 out of 60 House seats and 16 out of 30 Senate seats, Democrats aimed to flip these positions in 2024. Winning the top three statewide offices, including the governorship under Katie Hobbs, fueled their momentum.

However, their hopes for a legislative turnaround were dashed. With an influx of more than $10 million directed at key swing districts, the Left could not claim the anticipated victories. Instead, Republicans not only sustained but expanded their majorities, now holding 33 seats in the House and 17 in the Senate. This minor increase represents a significant setback for Governor Hobbs, who faces mounting criticism for her leadership and the inability to advance Democratic initiatives amid a backdrop of low approval ratings.
