Longtime Cobblestone Resident Takes Office as Maricopa’s New Constable
Pinal County officials have appointed William Lee “Bill” Griffin as the new constable for the Precinct 4 Western Pinal Justice Court in Maricopa. The announcement follows the resignation of former Constable Glenn Morrison, effective September 30.
Griffin, 69, is a retired sheriff’s deputy with an extensive background in law enforcement. He is also a leader within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His term will last until December 31, 2026, at which point he may decide to run for the position officially.
During the appointment process, another candidate, Christian Glover, was considered. Glover is the husband of Patricia Glover, the newly elected Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4. He operates a legal document preparation service in Maricopa.
Having previously run against Morrison in 2018 and losing by a narrow margin of 57 votes, Griffin expressed his readiness for the role. He mentioned that he plans to coordinate closely with Justice Glover and receive training from Chief Constable Scott Elliott, based in Casa Grande.
Griffin noted, “Campaigning is pretty gruesome. I don’t know why people do it.” He acted quickly to apply for the constable position following Morrison’s departure, eager to understand the operations of the civil court system.
The constable’s duties primarily involve serving civil court papers, informing individuals of their court obligations related to civil disputes. Griffin emphasized his commitment to learning the processes involved in this role.
Since moving to Maricopa in 2007, Griffin has built a foundation in community service. His extensive experience—over 24 years with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in California—equips him well for his new responsibilities. In his application, he highlighted his skills in reporting and executing court orders, showcasing attention to detail as essential for the role.
