Rep. Martinez Fires Back at Dems, Calls Attack ‘Hearsay’ and Criticizes Seaman’s Lack of Concern for the Public
Rep. Teresa Martinez recently addressed accusations levied against her by Carol Clarke, asserting her commitment to the residents of Legislative District 16. During a session at the Arizona State Capitol on January 8, 2024, Martinez emphasized that claims about her lack of care for the district are unfounded and purely based on hearsay.
Martinez stated, “I care very much about our district; I have fought for vital funding for our roads and water supply.” She highlighted her availability for discussions, noting that she provides her personal cell phone number to constituents, welcoming inquiries and concerns directly.
In her response, Martinez mentioned that although Clarke has not reached out to her directly, she has engaged with other constituents, including the chair of the Democratic Party, whom she offered to meet after the election. “Why am I accused of apathy simply because my answer didn’t meet their expectations?” she questioned.
Martinez voiced concerns that these accusations may be an attempt to divert attention from what she described as Rep. Keith Seaman’s detrimental voting record. She cited several key votes, including Seaman’s opposition to House Bill 2448, which aimed to provide health insurance to undocumented individuals, and various other bills that sought funding for essential infrastructure and public safety in Maricopa.
Specifically, Seaman voted against appropriations for groundwater management, transportation improvements, retention bonuses for correctional officers, and measures addressing the fentanyl crisis. In total, he rejected over 80 proposals aimed at enhancing community welfare and safety, according to Martinez.
In closing, Martinez reaffirmed her dedication to Arizona, stating, “I love our home, and I will fight to protect it.”
Rep. Teresa Martinez is the incumbent Republican nominee for the Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 16.
