Lake Havasu City's Ka Hoku Alakai Canoe Club competes in Hawaii

A new chapter in outrigger canoeing has begun with the establishment of the Ka Hoku Alakai Canoe Club. The club made its debut at the prestigious Queen Lili’uokalani Canoe Race in Hawaii, a prominent event in the paddling community.

Representing the club, five passionate members journeyed to Kona to participate in the challenging 18-mile race, which winds through Hawaii’s picturesque coastline. This annual event, honoring Hawaii’s last monarch, draws over 2,500 paddlers from across the globe—including participants from Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

After an intensive year of preparation, the team proudly garnered second place in the mixed crew category for ages 50 and above. Paddler Deb Hyde expressed the team’s pride, stating, “We exceeded our expectations,” highlighting the significance of their accomplishment.
