Workers Resume Duties at Georgia Walmart Following Disturbing Violence Incident

Workers returned to a Newton County Walmart on Sunday morning after a tragic incident that left one coworker dead and another injured. The violence occurred early Friday morning when 24-year-old Dwayne Eduh allegedly shot his coworkers in a targeted attack.
Authorities report that Eduh first shot a coworker inside the store, killing them, and then proceeded to the home of another coworker, shooting her as well. Both victims were identified as Khalaf Barksdale, 21, who died at the Walmart, and Akeela Clarke, 19, who was shot at her residence.
Following the violence, Eduh fled to South Carolina, where he engaged in a standoff with law enforcement that ended with him shooting himself. He remains in critical condition, according to official sources. A second injured coworker, 29 years old, has stabilized after being treated for gunshot wounds.
Details continue to emerge about the sequence of events that transpired during the incident. Witnesses heard multiple shots, with some employees hiding as the chaos unfolded. In 911 calls released by the police, one manager recounted letting Eduh back into the store under the pretense of retrieving a forgotten bag, unaware that he had gone to arm himself.
Investigators have not disclosed a motive behind Eduh’s actions as they continue to piece together the events leading up to the violence. The case has left the community shaken and raised concerns about safety in workplaces.
As the store reopens, many employees are left to process the trauma of the event. Authorities are working diligently to understand the full scope of the incident and provide answers to the affected families and coworkers.
