Woman Gravely Wounded by Officers in Knife Confrontation

PHOENIX — A violent incident unfolded on Saturday in Phoenix, resulting in critical injuries to a 32-year-old woman. According to the Phoenix Police Department, she was carrying a large knife and allegedly causing a disturbance at an apartment complex. Authorities responded to reports of the woman banging on doors in the area of 3400 North 12th Place, near 12th Street and Osborn Road.
Police Sgt. Mayra Reeson stated that the situation was initially believed to stem from a domestic dispute. Upon arrival around 3:20 p.m., officers spotted the woman at the top of a staircase. They attempted to persuade her to drop the knife, but she advanced toward them instead, prompting an officer to deploy a 40mm launcher. The weapon struck the woman multiple times.
Despite being hit, the woman refused to surrender the knife and approached the officers again. This prompted another officer to fire a shot, while a second officer utilized a Taser. The combined efforts led to her eventually dropping the knife.
Officers then took her into custody and provided medical assistance until she was transported to a nearby hospital. Although she entered with critical injuries, medical staff have since stabilized her condition. The knife used in the incident was recovered at the scene.
Fortunately, no other individuals were harmed during the confrontation. Investigators are still determining whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the event. This remains an ongoing investigation, with updates expected as information becomes available.
