Wisconsin school shooter had 2 guns and got messages from man accused of plotting his own attack

Two students remain in critical condition following a tragic shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, where a 15-year-old girl shot and killed a fellow student and a teacher before turning the gun on herself.

Details have emerged indicating that the shooter was in contact with a man in California allegedly planning an attack on a government building. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting that occurred on Monday and have yet to determine the motive.

“We may never know what she was thinking that day,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes stated. Investigators are diligently working to uncover answers about the events leading up to the attack.

As investigations unfold, a California judge issued a restraining order against a 20-year-old man described in court documents as having communicated with the shooter about executing a mass shooting. The hearing for this man is scheduled for January 3, and authorities are seeking to clarify the extent of his involvement in the situation.

The victims of the shooting have been identified. The deceased student, Rubi Patricia Vergara, 14, was remembered for her love of reading, art, and music. The teacher, Erin Michelle West, aged 42, was identified later after initial confusion regarding her name.

Chief Barnes has identified the shooter as Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow and expressed uncertainty regarding the premeditation of the attack, highlighting that bringing a firearm onto school grounds suggested a level of planning. The weapons used in the incident remain under investigation as authorities work to understand how Rupnow obtained them.

The police department’s communication strategy has faced criticism amid the investigation. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway emphasized the need for respect and privacy for the families involved, urging the community to refrain from intrusive questioning.

Despite the complexities of the situation, local and national responses continue, drawing comparisons to past school shootings that have marked the American landscape. The rarity of female perpetrators in such violent acts adds another layer of scrutiny to the tragedy.

Abundant Life Christian School, serving approximately 420 students from pre-kindergarten through high school, is now grappling with the aftermath of this devastating incident as the community comes to terms with its implications.
