The Sedona Airport is set to host its annual Wings and Wheels event on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This popular gathering will take place on Airport Mesa.

According to Sedona Airport operations manager Michael Dearden, “It’s always been a free event.” This year, however, attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for the Sedona Community Food Bank or make a suggested $2 donation at the entrance.

Participants can expect a captivating showcase of both static display aircraft and an annual car show organized by the Sedona Car Club. Among the featured vehicles is a rare 1954 Ford Comete by FACEL coupe, one of only 2,265 ever produced.

A highlight of the day will be a flag-raising ceremony conducted by the Sedona Fire District at 10 a.m. on one of their ladder trucks.

Admission is free, and complimentary golf cart shuttles will transport guests from the airport parking lot to the event area. Additionally, the Planes of Fame Air Museum will display three notable World War II-era fighters: the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and the North American P-51 Mustang. The P-40, a World War II combat veteran, has a storied history, including an engagement where it successfully destroyed a Japanese fire-balloon bomb.

“Wings and Wheels is all about family, fun, and entertainment,” commented Sedona Car Club President Don Hallford. This year marks a significant milestone as the car show sold out all exhibition spaces through online registration, featuring a total of 104 vehicles.

The theme for this year’s show, “American Muscle Cars: The Beginning,” emphasizes classic models like Chevy Chevelles and Pontiac GTOs. Hallford expressed a particular fondness for the 1967 Pontiac GTO, citing its remarkable performance and aesthetics.

The car show awards presentation will occur at 2 p.m., recognizing the top contenders across various categories, along with special awards such as Best of Show. Hallford highlighted the event’s importance as a fundraiser, which supports scholarships and automotive toolkits for high school students pursuing automotive technology studies. In total, the club has contributed 15 toolkits, each valued at approximately $350.
