Wife attacked husband, destroyed his car with tire iron: cops

A Rancho El Dorado woman faces multiple charges after allegedly assaulting her husband and damaging his vehicle with a tire iron. Gracie D. Ortiz, 43, was arrested by Maricopa Police following an incident reported on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the couple’s home on Backus Drive around 2:48 p.m., responding to Ortiz’s call about a domestic dispute. The altercation reportedly escalated when Ortiz demanded to inspect her husband’s iPhone, but he refused.

The confrontation moved to the garage, where Ortiz reportedly grabbed a 17-inch tire iron and damaged her husband’s Chevrolet Silverado by smashing its front and rear windshields. When her husband attempted to call 911, Ortiz allegedly struck him with the tire iron.

According to the police report, Ortiz confessed to her actions, stating she contacted law enforcement out of concern that her behavior was inappropriate and to prevent further escalation. Officers noted a slight injury on the husband’s finger and reported “extensive damage” to the truck, estimating the repair costs at $600. A tire iron was found resting on the hood of the damaged vehicle.

Surveillance footage corroborated the details of the alleged attack. Following her arrest, Ortiz was booked into the Pinal County jail and now faces potential prison time of six-and-a-half years.
