Widow Remembers Beloved Biker and Father of 7 Who Died on Riggs
Dustin Michael Tappe, a 38-year-old motorcyclist from Maricopa Meadows, tragically lost his life on Monday in a crash on Riggs Road. He is survived by his wife, Melody, and their seven children, including a month-old infant.
Melody Rose Tappe expressed her overwhelming grief in a recent interview, stating, “I just lost the man that I have loved since I was 12 years old.”
She is seeking clarity regarding the circumstances of the collision. Preliminary GPS data indicated that Dustin was riding at 67 miles per hour when the incident occurred, exceeding the 55 mph speed limit. He was returning home from his job at Sysco Foods in Tempe, where he had worked for three years.
“They loved him at Sysco and are grieving as well,” Melody noted, highlighting the impact of his loss on those who knew him.
Describing her husband as an extraordinary man and father, Melody mentioned their long history together before marrying on November 16, 2020. “He was my soulmate; my everything,” she said, emphasizing his dedication to their family.
Originally hailing from Auburn, Washington, the couple relocated to Maricopa in 2021, building a life together. Melody stressed the profound bond Dustin formed with everyone he met, referring to them as family.
“We are shattered and broken,” she lamented, fearing for the future now that she must navigate life alone, particularly with their young children relying on her. “We are struggling.”
Their family’s situation was further complicated as three of Dustin’s older children reside in Washington state. His youngest child, baby Dusten, is just a month old.
In her quest for answers, Melody took to Facebook expressing her frustrations, stating, “Nothing we have been told makes sense.” She urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
At the time of the incident, Tappe was riding a Suzuki motorcycle. The accident, which involved a motorcycle, a white van, and a Nissan Altima, closed the road for several hours while authorities investigated.
Gila River Fire officials confirmed that Tappe was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity.
As the investigation continues, the family seeks support in their time of need. Donations can be made to assist them during this challenging period.
