WASHINGTON — This holiday season, if you plan to honor your true love with all the gifts mentioned in “The 12 Days of Christmas,” be prepared to spend nearly $50,000. PNC Bank recently released its 41st annual “Christmas Price Index,” revealing a 5.4% increase in gift prices from the previous year.
The total cost for the twelve gifts this year is $49,263.47—a jump of approximately $2,500 compared to 2023. For perspective, the index’s initial total in 1984 was just $20,023.57.
Among the notable changes for 2024, the price of the Pear Tree surged by 17.1%, while the cost of the Partridge remained stable. Interestingly, five gifts, including Two Turtle Doves and Five Gold Rings, saw no price increases this year.
The Christmas Price Index also tallies the “True Cost of Christmas,” accounting for all 364 gifts from the carol’s repeated verses. That total now exceeds $209,272, reflecting a 3.6% rise from 2023.
