Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory, Feb 7-10

This weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is advising drivers in the Valley about significant freeway improvements that will lead to closures and restrictions from February 7 to 10. Travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, allocate extra time for their journeys, and consult the Weekend Travel Advisory Map to navigate around the affected areas.

Starting Friday at 10 p.m., eastbound I-10 will be closed between the SR 51 “Mini-Stack” interchange and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) until 4 a.m. Monday. This closure is part of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Meanwhile, eastbound I-10 on-ramps between Third Street and Baseline Road will also be closed. The southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10 will face similar restrictions. Notably, the southbound I-17 connection to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport will be closed. Some ramp closures will begin at 8 p.m. Friday. Drivers should plan for additional travel time.

The primary detour route for those affected is to take eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and then southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) to either westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway). Additionally, drivers can bypass the closure by taking southbound/eastbound Loop 202 (South Mountain Freeway) to reach I-10 near Chandler Boulevard. For more details, visit I10BroadwayCurve.com. Note that southbound I-17 on-ramps at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

On the other hand, northbound I-17 will be closed between Loop 303 and State Route 74/Carefree Highway from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday due to a pavement improvement project. Eastbound Loop 303 traffic will only be permitted to make right turns to southbound I-17. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for their travels.

As a detour, northbound I-17 traffic should use the frontage road to SR 74 before re-entering the highway. The use of local streets east of I-17, which are not equipped to handle freeway traffic, should be avoided. Moreover, some local street closures will be enacted, but access to the Phoenix Waste Transfer Station will be maintained via Dixileta Drive, albeit with expected delays.

In addition, westbound I-10 off- and on-ramps at Broadway Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for sign replacement work. Broadway Road will also be closed in both directions between I-10 and 55th Street, while 52nd Street will face closures at Broadway Road. Northbound 48th Street will be shut down between Broadway Road and I-10 for bridge work.

Drivers can expect alternate routes to be available, and further details can be found at I10BroadwayCurve.com. Westbound I-10 will be narrowed to three lanes between Baseline and Broadway roads from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

For a complete list of weekend restrictions, drivers can refer to the Weekend Travel Advisory map or visit the ADOT website.
