The Maricopa Police Department has released body camera footage of the arrest of Ronnie Dolejs, a 49-year-old man from Nebraska, following a dangerous pursuit that resulted in extensive damage to a police vehicle. The incident occurred in The Lakes at Rancho El Dorado and has led to Dolejs facing 25 criminal charges.
Authorities initiated action after receiving multiple reports of Dolejs driving erratically and performing donuts in the neighborhood. One caller even threatened to shoot him if he came too close.
Officers Cpl. Erick Solis and Officer Cristian Cano Ortiz responded rapidly, pursuing Dolejs’s 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The chase escalated as Dolejs veered down Bolivia Street, Cahill Drive, and Liles Lane, reaching speeds up to 70 miles per hour.
St. Jour, another officer, joined the pursuit. The chase concluded dramatically when Dolejs’s vehicle collided nearly head-on with St. Jour’s cruiser, creating a plume of smoke and sending his truck crashing into a parked car and a tree.
After the crash, Dolejs remained in his vehicle, prompting officers to urgently demand that he exit. He complied and was taken into custody. Officers expressed their frustration during the arrest, questioning Dolejs’s judgment, to which he responded, “I guess so!”
Dolejs later claimed he was unable to see the police lights and admitted to recent meth use. Officers discovered marijuana and several meth pipes inside his truck, with the damage to the patrol car estimated at $60,104.
Ultimately, Dolejs was charged with multiple offenses, including five counts of felony criminal damage and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Following a guilty plea on April 2 for one count of aggravated assault involving a motor vehicle, Dolejs was sentenced to 15 years in prison, according to records from Pinal County Superior Court.
